I love it when they think of stuff like this
Blu-ray discs, the newest in video-type technology...I've heard of them before, but the nerd in me was excited to find out that they hold more data than normal discs because a BLUE LASER is used to read/write the disc (as opposed to the typical RED laser), and because blue has a shorter wavelength than red light, more data can be fit onto the disc! Genius!

None taken whatsoever.
I definitely agree with what you're saying--cripes, I generally find DVDs a pain because whenever I go to rent one, someone's scratched it and I get to see stuttered actions for about a minute until I get up and do something about it...and even then, I'm missing part of the film because I have to skip ahead to avoid the rough patch.
I personally just thought it was cool that someone would think to use a different type of laser and "improve" the state of the technology. Science thrills me.
When you mention the Criterion Collection going along with it, do you mean "going" as in disappearing, or using that technology, or sacrificing for a step back in quality (which wouldn't make sense because of their mandate-type deal)?

Too bad Sony's Blu-ray discs are going to lose out to the HD-DVD's.
I beleive this comment is "faceitious".
(Did I do it!? Did I do it!?)

Well that mostly clears that up...Criterion are top-quality releases of films on DVD, yes? That's what I gathered from their website... And I totally pictured you with a pirate sword and eye patch.
And Amber, I guess my guess at the definition wasn't so great. Ah well.

are the new blu-ray and HD players going to be backwards-compatible?
