Hum dee dum

I've given in and have bought an iPod...it's not in yet but I am definitely looking forward to loading it up with sweet tunes...

and speaking of sweet tunes, I'm also looking forward to the cds I've ordered: Thom Yorke's The Eraser, Gnarls Barkley's St. Elsewhere, and the New Pornographers' Mass Romantic (yes I finally ordered it).

In other news, this week I have been asked if I wear a wig and was also beaned in the face with a shoe during a soccer game.

Screw you spam

Unfortunately, due to the insanely high number of spam comments I've recieved in the last week or so, I've had to turn word verification on. We'll see how it goes.

Animated shorts

The National Film Board of Canada has 50 of its best animated shorts online...Check out the manic attempts of Mr. Johnson in "The Cat Came Back." It's fairly amusing.

The Devil Wears Prada

This evening I watched "The Devil Wears Prada" starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. I haven't read the book it was based on, but I enjoyed the movie. Meryl Streep definitely steals the show, and I believe it was supposed to focus more on Hathaway's character. They played their characters well though.

In any event, it was a pretty good "fluff" movie...and I LOVED the clothes. Oh wow. Don't even get me started.

*Cough* So yes. Actually almost didn't make it to the theatre, got inside just as the 'feature presentation' screen was rolling on.

In conclusion, this is my concluding statement.

Spinning

A couple of tunes, if you're interested...

Machine Translations - No Hip
Machine Translations - She Wears a Mask
Roisin Murphy - Ruby Blue
The Wrens - This Boy is Exhausted

The first is neat - a computer generated voice provides the vocals.
The second Machine Translations song is more upbeat, more tuneful...actually quite catchy, and I like it more.
I LOVE Ruby Blue, I don't even know how to describe it. Groovy is the only word I can think of. And extremely danceable if you enjoy dancing to that sort of music. It was featured on Grey's Anatomy.
The Wrens song is also fairly upbeat, and less whiny than the other songs that I listen to by the Wrens. More of an "easy listen" I suppose.

But that's just me.

Enjoy.

Also, you should check out the 2006 Pitchfork Music Sampler which Jack talked about. It's excellent and I've discovered that you don't actually need to be an emusic subscriber to listen to/download the tunes. That is, however, neither an endorsement of or lack of endorsement of downloading music without the subscription.

Cheers.

Shock and awe!

A new Valence Bond Man comic is up!

New comic...

to read. No new VBM yet.

But this comic, xkcd, is also funny in a sometimes science-y kind of way. Read the creator's disclaimer.

As I peruse, I have so far laughed quite a bit at this one, this one, and this one. And this one. And this. Just go read it. (And there's alt text if you hover your cursor over the comic).

Viva Italia!

And Italy takes the 2006 FIFA World Cup in the penalty shootout!!!

That game was intense. I was able to start watching about half-way into overtime...Did you SEE that head-butt Zidane dealt?! Insane. Not cool.

But in any event, I'm sure there will be quite a bit of celebration in the Little Italys of the world tonight.

Oh, spambots

They build you up and then tear you down with a link. Here is a sample of all the "comments" I received in the past 24 hours and just deleted:

Huzzah!

Happy Canada day! Saw some fireworks, but they weren't that great. Oh well. Went with friends though, so that made up for it.
