Dance dance

I've been asked to come up with killer dance music for the New Year's party I'm going to.
SICK.

I've got a playlist going for it, but does anyone have any suggestions? Comment away!

Starting to run on fumes...

...cake fumes, that is...

It's been a busy week! Christmas, my birthday, boxing week shopping, New Years right around the corner...I've been buzzing around with the family, visiting family and friends and generally having a good time. I've seen a bunch of extended family and friends that I haven't seen in a long time, and had been missing, so that was really great.

Went to the Science Centre today, saw "Bugs" at the Omnimax Theatre. Cinematography was great, but the idea was a tad less exhilirating than that of others I've seen. Greatest/coolest part was seeing an ant extremely close up and watching it drink from a water droplet, which it was also floating on top of. Saw "The Pursuit of Happyness" and "The Holiday"; the first was actually pretty depressing...the second was fluffy and okay.

I've begun reading "Alice's Adventures In Wonderland" (or the two stories that make it up), which I have never read, so I'm catching up on my later 1800s lit. I also have plans to read Mark Leyner's "Et Tu, Babe" and the graphic novel of "V for Vendetta", among a long list of things to read.

Music? Spinning whatever comes up. I know it's the year-end-- I don't make lists; however, I must note that I did enjoy Thom Yorke's "The Eraser", Hot Chip's "The Warning", Sunset Rubdown's "Shut Up I Am Dreaming", The Flaming Lips' "At War With The Mystics", most of Justin Timberlake's "Futuresex/Lovesounds", The Rapture's "Pieces of the People We Love", Hellogoodbye's "Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!", and "Show Your Bones" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Aaaaaaaaand I guess I just made a list there. Aaaaaaaaaaand that's it from me for the day.

No ballet, no lip-synching, no car radios...

The president of Turkmenistan, Saparmurat Niyazov, died on Wednesday. This guy banned ballet, had public libraries with books only written by him, then he closed those too...oy vey...plus the others in the title of this entry.
"He ordered the months and days of the week named after himself and his family, and statues of him were erected throughout the country. He is listed as author of the "Rukhnama" (Book of the Soul) that was required reading in schools." (from Macleans)

In Other News...

I am Time Magazine's Person of the Year. And so are you.

And I bet they did that just so people like myself would write blog entries just like this one. Ah well. It's still an interesting take.

It's called unit analysis, folks

Verizon's math problem has received quite a bit of publicity as of late. I shook my head in sorrow as I listened to the original phone call...oh dear. (The call and original post are here).

Kind of blows me away, actually.

"it's a modulated anarchy."

It's funny to see what's changed and what's stayed the same, since this clip from the early 90's (video found through qwantz.com)

"There's not a lot of put-downs, not screen-fulls of 'go to hell'."

I also love how he describes how to read emoticons.

Heh.

I just scanned the blog and realized that I've been mostly posting music links/song titles/whatnot for the past however many posts are on the main page. I guess this isn't a bad thing, but I want to add some more substance to the blog. However, I am tired and this is all I can think of to write right now. Unless you want me to write about integrins, or fatalism and determinism, or pi memorized to 36 decimal places. That's all I've got right now.

*this is from my brain*: 3.141 592 653 589 793 238 462 643 383 279 502 884

I'm cool like that. More later when I'm more awake and can think of something else to say.
HAPPY DECEMBER!
